IMEI numbers & Serial Numbers

How do I find IMEI number on a Mobile Phone?

Most models have a printed label on the back of the handset under the battery pack.
Alternatively on smartphones
1. You will need to be in keypad mode (smartphones)
2. Press * # 0 6 # on the keypad
3. Your IMEI number will be retrieved and displayed on your screen.

What is an IMEI number?

It is the phones electronic serial number; this is the number the phone transmits to the network carrier.
The number is in Hexadecimal, it is made up of numbers and letters (ABCDEF)
IMEI numbers  are 15 character long.

There is another number on the phone, called serial number, but it can be ignored. This is the manufacturer’s serial number and is not used in the industry (only by manufacturers). The serial number is relevant only to NSW.

When do I look for IMEI number or a Serial Number?

If the device has a SIM card you need to record IMEI number, 15 digit numeric.

If the device has NO SIM card you need to record serial number, 6-12 digit alphanumeric

IMEI number Vs. MEID number. What is the difference?

IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) are numbers unique to every GSM mobile phone used to identify valid devices. IMEI are 15 digits long.

MEID (Mobile Equipment Identifiers) are unique numbers found on CDMA mobile phones (only in the U.S.) MEID are 15 alpha-numeric digits long followed by six zeros and a serial number. We DO NOT buy CDMA devices.
